How much does Google Ads management cost in the UK?
Two costs to think about — the management fee, and the ad spend. Below is what UK Google Ads management actually costs in 2026, what each pricing model means, and where the rip-offs hide. — Oliver Ball.
The two costs you’re paying
1. Ad spend — this goes directly to Google. You pay Google’s billing for each click or impression. This isn’t an agency cost.
2. Management fee — this goes to whoever manages the account. Three pricing models exist: flat fee, percentage of spend, or hybrid.
The three management pricing models
Flat monthly fee
£300-£3,000+/month depending on agency tier and account complexity. Typical for SMEs. Predictable cost, doesn’t scale punishingly when ad spend grows. Risk: incentive misalignment — agency may under-service larger accounts.
Percentage of ad spend
10-20% of monthly ad spend, sometimes with a minimum fee. Common at larger agencies. Risk: incentive misalignment in the wrong direction — agency benefits from you spending more whether or not it’s profitable.
Hybrid (flat + percentage)
Flat fee covers labour at any spend level. Percentage scales with workload as account grows. The model we use — £500/month + 10% of ad spend. Keeps incentives aligned and pricing transparent.
UK pricing tiers in 2026
- £200-£500/month flat: Junior or freelance management. Suitable for £500-£2,000/month ad spend on simple accounts.
- £500-£1,500/month flat or hybrid: Mid-market UK agencies. Suitable for £1,000-£10,000/month ad spend with full Search + Shopping + Pmax structure. Our hybrid sits here at £500/mo + 10% spend.
- £1,500-£5,000/month or 10-15% of spend: Larger UK agencies, competitive verticals (legal, finance, healthcare).
- 10-20% of spend at £10k+/month: Enterprise / £50k+ ad budgets. Often includes dedicated account team.
How much ad spend should you have?
- £500-£1,000/month: Local services with low CPCs (£1-£3 CPC). Trades, beauty, hospitality.
- £1,000-£3,000/month: Most UK SMEs. Enough volume for Smart Bidding to optimise.
- £3,000-£10,000/month: Competitive categories, ecom Shopping, scaled service businesses.
- £10,000+/month: Larger ecom, multi-region, enterprise.
- Below £500/month: Generally not enough data for Smart Bidding to work meaningfully. Consider organic-only or Meta instead.
Per-CPC costs by category (2026 UK averages)
- Personal injury solicitor: £35-£60+ CPC
- Cosmetic dentist: £15-£35 CPC
- Financial advisor: £8-£25 CPC
- Roofing / trades: £4-£12 CPC
- Ecom (varies hugely): £0.50-£8 CPC
- Local services average: £1.50-£5 CPC
High-CPC categories need bigger budgets to gather meaningful conversion data. More on Google Ads management.
Hidden costs to watch for
- Setup fees. Some agencies charge £500-£3,000 to “build” an account. Reasonable agencies don’t. We don’t.
- Tracking implementation extras. Conversion tracking and CAPI setup should be included, not billed separately.
- Long contracts. 12-month minimums lock you in. Look for rolling monthly with reasonable notice.
- Account ownership tricks. Some agencies refuse to release account access on cancellation. Your account should be yours from day one.
- “Performance bonuses”. Sometimes worded as “we take 15% of profit above target”. Hard to verify and easy to game.
What good Google Ads management actually does
- Server-side conversion tracking. Enhanced conversions, server-side GTM, CAPI where applicable.
- Account structure. Brand / non-brand / Shopping / Pmax separated. Brand ring-fenced from Pmax cannibalisation.
- Match type discipline. Exact + phrase for non-brand. Broad only with sufficient Smart Bidding data.
- Negative keyword layering. Account-level + campaign-level. Weekly search term review.
- Landing page alignment. Ad copy matches landing page. Quality Score stays high, CPCs stay low.
- Plain-English reporting. CPA, ROAS, revenue. Not vanity dashboards.

FAQs
What’s the cheapest Google Ads management that actually works?
Realistically £300-£500/month flat or 10-15% of a £1,000+ ad budget. Below that, the labour cost doesn’t add up.
Should I pay flat fee or % of spend?
Hybrid usually wins. Flat covers labour at any spend, percentage scales workload.
Can I run Google Ads myself?
Yes, technically. Most founders’ time is better spent on the business. Below £1,500/mo ad spend, DIY is reasonable. Above that, professional management usually pays for itself.
What’s a realistic ROAS?
2-4x for most ecom, 3-6x for high-margin services, varies wildly by category and offer.
How long until I see results?
Days to first data, 30-60 days to optimised performance. Faster than SEO.
Should I run Google Ads alongside SEO?
Usually yes. SEO vs Google Ads guide.
What about Performance Max?
Yes, but with brand exclusions and proper structure. Pmax docs.
What does Signal Marketing charge?
£500/month + 10% ad spend, rolling monthly. Full pricing.
